Portland, OR — The Oregon Working Families Party (OWFP) today is excited to announce the endorsement of Commissioner Carmen Rubio for mayor of Portland. With hundreds of thousands of members across the country, WFP is dedicated to fighting for economic and social justice for working families through grassroots campaigning and community organizing.
“Plain and simple: Carmen Rubio is the mayor Portland needs,” said Annie Naranjo-Rivera, Oregon State Director for the Working Families Party. “She’s a lifelong champion for working families who will fight to create affordable housing, good-paying union jobs, and strong, safe communities – and has the track record to prove it. We need Carmen’s bold, principled leadership in City Hall more than ever, and we look forward to helping her become the city’s next mayor.”
The grassroots political party will mobilize its organizers, members, and volunteers to help progressive champion Rubio prevail in the historic mayoral race.
“This year, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to dramatically improve the lives of everyone who calls Portland home; we need a mayor who understands that impulsive sound bites and magic wand fantasies won’t solve our city’s toughest problems,” said Carmen Rubio.
“Working Portlanders know that tough talk is just that – talk. Our community deserves leaders who are ready to work hard, embrace bold solutions, and demand accountability. For decades, WFP has led the fight to make our democracy work for everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected, and I’m both grateful and thrilled to have them on our side in this race.”
